The SilverStone MS12 is an external enclosure that turns an NVMe M.2 drive into a fast portable device. It connects through USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C and reaches transfer rates of up to 20Gbps SuperSpeed+, letting you make the most of whatever M.2 drive you fit inside it.

Capacity & interface

The enclosure carries no storage of its own; instead it lets you install an NVMe M.2 drive of your choice via a Key-M connector. The external link is USB Type-C running the USB 3.2 Gen2x2 standard, with support for the BOT and UAS protocols as well as TRIM commands for efficient management of the internal drive.

Speed

The USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C interface offers up to 20Gbps SuperSpeed+ of bandwidth, a rate suited to moving large files, running backups and working straight off the external drive. The unit complies with PCI Express Base Rev. 3.1a and NVM Express Base Rev. 1.3c, and supports SMART monitoring of drive health.

Form factor & use

It accepts M.2 drives in several lengths - 22x42mm, 22x60mm and 22x80mm - covering formats up to 2280. The body is aluminium with a built-in thermal pad that helps dissipate heat from the drive under load. The result is a reliable portability solution that puts spare M.2 drives to work.
