The AMD Ryzen 7 9700X is an eight-core AM5 processor based on AMD's new Zen 5 architecture. It combines excellent gaming performance with strong compute power for creation and productivity tasks, all while keeping a remarkably low 65W power envelope. The chip is unlocked for overclocking and includes integrated graphics for initial setup.

Zen 5 architecture & performance

Zen 5 delivers a notable per-core (IPC) uplift over the previous generation, along with a wider data path and faster execution units. The eight cores and 16 threads, at a 3.8GHz base and up to 5.5GHz boost, provide high frame rates in games and short processing times in video editing, compilation and professional workloads.

Despite the high performance, the TDP is just 65W, allowing relatively cool, quiet operation and an edge in energy efficiency.

AM5 platform & memory

The processor uses the modern AM5 socket and supports fast DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 for next-generation graphics cards and NVMe drives. The AM5 platform is built for longevity, so the system is ready for future upgrades as well.

Integrated graphics & overclocking

The CPU includes AMD Radeon Graphics integrated, letting you set up a system and get a display even without a discrete graphics card. It is also unlocked, allowing experienced users to push performance further on suitable motherboards. This processor ships without a cooler, so a separate cooling solution must be added.
