| Revew | Vention DisplayPort 2.1 Cable, 3 m, up to 16KThe Vention HGB-series DP 2.1 cable is built for anyone who wants a video link that will not become a bottleneck, even when paired with next-generation displays. Its generous three-metre length leaves plenty of freedom to position the graphics card and the monitor, while still delivering one of the highest transmission standards available today. PurposeThis is a digital DisplayPort 2.1 video cable made to connect a graphics card or laptop to a compatible monitor, television or projector. Peak bandwidth reaches up to 80Gbps, placing it at almost three times the throughput of the older DP 1.4 standard, which makes it a natural fit for gaming rigs and content-creation stations that move very large amounts of data.
CapabilitiesBy pairing the DP 2.1 standard with Display Stream Compression, the cable can drive a wide range of display modes: 16K at 60Hz with DSC, 10K at 60Hz, 8K at 240Hz with DSC, 4K at 360Hz, 2K at 480Hz and even 1080p at 540Hz. For players it opens up 4K at a 240Hz refresh rate or 2K at 360Hz, alongside Dynamic HDR support that adjusts contrast and colour range frame by frame.
Connectivity & compatibilityThe cable is fully compatible with AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync, so tearing and visual artefacts can be eliminated in favour of smooth motion. Both ends use a standard DisplayPort connector, which keeps it simple either to swap out an existing lead or to wire up a brand-new system that supports the standard.
