Gigabyte Z790 AORUS TACHYON Motherboard

The Gigabyte Z790 AORUS TACHYON is a motherboard designed by and for overclockers, with an LGA1700 socket and the Intel Z790 chipset. It supports 14th, 13th and 12th Gen Intel Core processors as well as Pentium Gold and Celeron, and is built to get the most out of them.

Its power design, two-slot memory layout and onboard buttons and switches target extreme overclocking. It also offers four PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, Intel 2.5GbE LAN, Wi-Fi 6E and audio with DTS:X Ultra. It is an E-ATX board measuring 30.5 x 27 cm.

Key features

• Digital direct 15+1+2 VRM - A RENESAS RAA229131 PWM controller drives 15 phases directly, and each Vcore phase uses a 105A RAA220105 power stage. Tantalum polymer capacitors and two shielded 8-pin CPU connectors deliver stable current under extreme overclocking.
• Short memory layout - Two DDR5 slots in a daisy-chain layout sit as close to the CPU as possible, with shielded traces in the inner PCB layers and server-grade PCB material. This allows high frequencies and low latency, with XMP 3.0 support and up to 128GB of memory.
• Onboard overclocking kit - Power, reset, Clear CMOS and Cold Reset buttons, protection mode (LIMP_MODE), CLK+ and CLK- buttons for the CPU ratio, OC Trigger and OC Ignition switches and voltage measurement points. An extra 6-pin OC_PEG connector reinforces power to the PCIe slots.
• Dual BIOS and CPU-less updates - Two BIOS chips with DualBIOS and selector switches protect against failed settings. Q-Flash Plus updates the BIOS even without a CPU, memory or graphics card.
• Expansion and storage - A PCIe 5.0 x16 slot with EZ-Latch quick release, a second PCIe 5.0 slot at x8 and a PCIe 4.0 slot at x4. Four PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slots with M.2 Thermal Guard heatsinks and four SATA ports.
• Full connectivity - Intel 2.5GbE LAN, Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210 with Bluetooth 5.3, two 20Gbps USB-C ports (rear and front header), HDMI, PS/2 ports for legacy keyboards and mice and Realtek ALC1220-VB audio with DTS:X Ultra.
