The Broadcom SAS 9305-16i (formerly LSI) is a low-profile host bus adapter that connects up to 16 drives directly to a server through four internal Mini-SAS HD connectors, each lane running at 12Gb/s. It is built on the Fusion-MPT architecture and supports up to 1024 SAS and SATA devices through SAS expanders.

This is an HBA, not a hardware RAID controller: drives are passed to the operating system as they are, which makes it a popular choice for ZFS, TrueNAS, Ceph and software-defined storage servers. Both low-profile and full-height brackets are included.
