WD Ultrastar DC HC580 22TB WUH722422ALE6L4 Data Center HDD

The Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC580 22TB is a 3.5-inch hard drive for servers and data centers with a SATA 6Gb/s interface and a 7200RPM spindle speed. It is built on a 10-disk CMR platform, sealed and filled with helium (HelioSeal), and combines OptiNAND technology, energy-assisted magnetic recording (EAMR) and a triple-stage actuator (TSA).

The drive is designed for 24/7 operation with workloads of up to 550TB per year and a projected MTBF of 2.5 million hours. The WUH722422ALE6L4 model is the Base (SE) version with 512e format and no self-encryption.

Key features

• 22TB with CMR - 10 disks with conventional magnetic recording (CMR) for predictable random and sequential write performance, suited to RAID arrays and storage servers.
• OptiNAND and ArmorCache - A built-in iNAND flash device stores critical metadata, and ArmorCache protects cached data in case of sudden power loss, even with write cache enabled.
• HelioSeal and low power - A sealed helium-filled enclosure fits 10 disks in a standard 3.5-inch drive, with 5.5W at idle and 8.4W under random workloads.
• Data center reliability - Projected MTBF of 2.5 million hours, 0.35% AFR, 600,000 load/unload cycles and workloads of up to 550TB per year.
• Performance - Sustained transfer rate up to 291MB/s, a 512MB buffer and 4.16ms average latency.
