SK hynix Gold P31 2TB SSD

The SK hynix Gold P31 is an M.2 2280 SSD with a PCIe 3.0 NVMe interface, reaching sequential reads of up to 3,500MB/s and writes of up to 3,200MB/s, about six times faster than SATA drives. It is built on SK hynix's own CEPHEUS controller, its 128-layer 3D TLC NAND and Hyperwrite cache technology.

The Gold P31 stands out for performance per watt, which makes it especially well suited to laptops as well as desktop upgrades. At 2TB it is rated for 1,200TB written (TBW), and all components sit on one side of the board, so it fits tight slots too.

Key features

• Top PCIe 3.0 speed - Sequential reads of up to 3,500MB/s and writes of up to 3,200MB/s, with random performance of up to 570K IOPS read and 600K IOPS write. Latency is 90 microseconds for reads and 45 microseconds for writes.
• Power efficiency - SK hynix highlights the high ratio of throughput to power draw, both during large transfers and at idle. This is a clear advantage in laptops.
• 128-layer NAND and Hyperwrite cache - SK hynix was the first to put 128-layer NAND into a consumer SSD. Together with the Hyperwrite cache, the drive keeps performance steady under heavy workloads.
• Endurance and reliability - Rated for 1,200TB written (TBW) at 2TB and an MTBF of 1.5 million hours. The drive went through 1,000-hour stress tests.
• Single-sided and thin - All components sit on one side, thickness is up to 2.23 mm and weight up to 7 g, so the drive also suits thin laptops.
• Security and advanced features - Support for AES 256-bit encryption and Pyrite 2.0, plus TRIM, S.M.A.R.T, garbage collection and Device Sleep mode.
