The 10Gtek X540-10G-2T-X8 is a server and workstation network card with two 10GBASE-T RJ-45 ports, built on the Intel Ethernet X540 controller. It is compatible with the Intel X540-T2 and lets you move to 10 Gigabit networking over standard copper cabling, without optical modules.

The card installs in a PCI Express 2.1 x8 slot and also fits x16 slots. Each port runs at 100Mbps, 1Gbps and 10Gbps, over CAT6 cable up to 55 m or CAT6A cable up to 100 m. It supports Windows, Windows Server, Linux and VMware ESXi, and both a full-height and a low-profile bracket are in the box.

• Two 10GBASE-T ports - Two RJ-45 ports run at 100Mbps, 1Gbps and 10Gbps. The card does not support the 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps intermediate speeds.
• Intel X540 controller - The card is built on the Intel Ethernet Controller X540-BT2 and is compatible with the Intel X540-T2, so it works with Intel's drivers for this controller.
• PCIe 2.1 x8 interface - A PCI Express 2.1 link at 5.0GT/s over x8 lanes provides bandwidth for both ports at once. The card fits x8 and x16 slots.
• Virtualization and network storage - Support for Intel VT-c, VMDq, SR-IOV and Flexible Port Partitioning lets you share the ports between virtual machines, and storage over Ethernet is supported with iSCSI, FCoE and NFS.
• Traffic management in the controller - Data Center Bridging (DCB) enables lossless Ethernet, while on-chip QoS and intelligent offloads take load off the server's processor.
• Two brackets included - Full-height and low-profile brackets allow installation in standard and slim cases. The card does not support hot swapping.
