Intel SFP+ SR Optics SFP Module

The Intel Ethernet SFP+ SR Optics is a hot-pluggable SFP+ optical module for short-range 10 Gigabit Ethernet links over multimode fiber (MMF). It supports both 10GBASE-SR and 1000BASE-SX, so it can run at 10Gb/s or 1Gb/s depending on the equipment at the other end.

The module uses an 850nm VCSEL laser and a duplex LC connector, reaches up to 300 meters over OM3 fiber at 10Gb/s and draws less than 1W. It is designed for Intel Ethernet Server Adapter X520 network cards and has built-in digital diagnostics.

Key features

• 10GBASE-SR and 1000BASE-SX - Selectable 1.25Gb/s or 9.95-10.3Gb/s operation, so the same module works on 10GbE and Gigabit Ethernet links.
• Up to 300 m reach - Up to 300 meters over OM3 fiber at 10Gb/s and up to 82 meters over OM2. At 1Gb/s the reach is 550 meters over OM2.
• 850nm laser, duplex LC - An uncooled VCSEL laser and a standard duplex LC connector for multimode fiber cables.
• Hot-pluggable with diagnostics - An SFP+ MSA module that can be inserted and removed without powering down the server, with SFF-8472 digital diagnostics for monitoring.
• For Intel X520 adapters - Compatible with Intel Ethernet Server Adapter X520-DA2, X520-SR1 and X520-SR2. According to Intel, X520 adapters work only with Intel optical modules.
